    • Students are to read and annotate Mark Twain’s piece “Fennimore Cooper’s Literary Offenses” focusing on how the author contextualizes the moment, rhetorical importance, and author’s purpose.
    • Students are then to respond to the following prompt in google classroom:

    Write a paragraph that explains what Twain is criticizing about Cooper’s writing.  What kind of writing do you think he values, given the criticism? Use textual evidence to support your response
