Students will read/analyze “State of the Union Address” 1944 with a focus on rhetorical appeals and common subject matter where the appeals are used and author’s attitude toward America

Students will read/analyze “My Day” with a focus on rhetorical appeals and use of rhetoric in comparison to FDR’s speech

Homework–

Students are to respond to the following questions in reference to the two works above:

1.        What does FDR mean when he says that people “who are hungry…are the stuff of which dictatorships are made?” Respond in a complete paragraph with textual support.

2.  How do you see this column affirming FDR’s speech?  How is the rhetoric different? Respond in a complete paragraph with textual support.
