Students read, discussed, analyzed and took notes over Thoreau’s “Walden” focusing on tone, elements of Transcendentalism, hyperbole, and metaphor and how Thoreau compares to Emerson—students also wrote their own version of an extended metaphor based on Thoreau as a ticket out the door
